i love this song. i think the beat and lyrics really capture the story they tell. a young girl starts a passionate fling with a naive boy. he falls in love, but she moves on and wants nothing to do with him. gaga fears the past because you can’t erase it, no matter how much you want to.
bad romance - fear of love
the title kind of makes it obvious. i’m sure the song has all kinds of deep meanings (i read some longass review on ontd about how it’s a metaphor for the music industry or some shit) but the way i see it, it’s just about one of those intense love/hate relationships, where both people are so consumed by each other that they are willing to accept anything and do anything in exchange for their love.
dance in the dark - fear of loneliness
so after reading a review of TFM that explained the meaning of this song, i suddenly stopped hating it. it’s about a woman who’s stuck in a psychologically abusive relationship. her boyfriend calls her a slut and says she’s worthless, so that the only time she feels confident enough to dance and be herself is when she’s alone in the dark. the bridge references strong female figures — princess diana, madonna, etc. — and says their legacy will never die. so basically, the psychological isolation of this girl is the loneliness monster.
monster - fear of men
this is the only fear that hasn’t been confirmed. it largely arose from fan speculation. personally, i think it makes sense if it’s a monster. the song is about a girl who falls for a womanizer, despite the fact that she knows he’s a “wolf in disguise” and her best friend warned her to stay away from him. the moment he has her heart, he “eats” it and her “brain,” i.e. her rationality. if it’s not fear of men, it’s probably fear of one-night stands or something.
so happy i could die - fear of death
this one is really iffy for me; i only paired the two up by process of elimination. my best guess is that the song is about a girl who’s in love with her best friend but knows it won’t go anywhere. she says she’ll be her “best friend, i’ll love you forever” and adds that she’s so happy she could die when it’s just them at the clubs. she seems to know that all of this is a fantasy (hence the references to masturbation) and she’ll be as good as dead when it crashes, so she wants to die at the peak of her joy, instead of waiting for it to sneak up on her. idk, idk, that makes no sense. ALTERNATIVELY, this could be purely about masturbation. the “lavender” blonde is herself — she’s narcissistic and vain, and only manages to achieve “the little death” (i.e. orgasm) when she’s on her own.
speechless - fear of alcohol
there’s been a lot of controversy over this one. i honestly don’t see how anyone could interpret it as anything other than fear of the alcohol monster. i read somewhere that gaga sings this song to her father from her mother’s perspective. it’s about a woman who’s in love with a man who loves alcohol more than her. all of the verses are about her confronting him while he’s drunk (“i can’t believe how you looked at me, with your james dean glossy eyes”; “i can’t believe how you slurred at me”; “so baby raise a glass to mend all the broken hearts of all my wrecked up friends”). she begs him to give the alcohol up, but in the end, he’s too consumed by it to listen to her.
teeth - fear of sex
okay, honestly, i don’t like this song. i think the beat sucks, the organisation sucks, and the lyrics suck. the song addresses the dark, immoral, violent side of sex, using phrases like “take a bite of my bad girl meat,” “just want your sex,” and “got no religion, my religion is you.” and honestly, how could a song that has the line “show me your dick, come on” not be about sex?
telephone - fear of commitment
well… this one’s really straightforward. a girl is out at the club and her boyfriend won’t stop calling her to check up on her. she tells him to stop calling because she’s tired of him bothering her when she’s trying to have fun and party.
i can’t remember if i posted this… i don’t think i did, because i vaguely remember wanting to hold out until the CD rip leaked. anyway, i LOVE this song. it’s not *quite* as amazing as i thought it would be, but i don’t think it would have been possible for adam to meet my expectations, anyway. this is tied with if i had you and music again for my favourite song from the cd <3 also, the fact that adam kept in the male pronoun = LOTS OF BONUS POINTS.
“Merlin’s hands settle on the small of Arthur’s back, and Arthur’s hands come down—slowly—to mirror the position, arms crossing Merlin’s. The skin is damp, sweaty, and they pull each other closer with timid fingers—gasp softly into each other’s necks, flushed and keeping close, movements minute but definite. It’s so quiet the noises from the courtyard float in through the open window, and there’re cartwheels and footsteps, a discussion concerning a horse and the height of a gate, the annoyed whinging of a child wanting to go with a friend and not his mother—right there in the room with them, and all the while Arthur and Merlin move. Slow and concentrated, so very young and amazed at each other, their differences and bodies, minds and ways, how they fit and how they don’t, how they make each other feel and how addictive it is—how everything still isn’t enough. Moving together, slick and intimate, tasting each other as they lick their lips—pressed to the crooks of necks—still not enough, feels like it will never be enough, and yet the closest thing to unconditional affection they’ve ever known.”—"Accidental Memory in the Case of Death" by derryere
okay, everyone hates this song, but i love it. it’s my favourite ballad on adam’s album, i think. the lyrics are kind of cheesy, but the melody is very powerful, and the first few bars are wonderful. i imagine young!adam sitting in his room alone listening to this song, and it makes me want to cry.
today’s music post was a struggle for me. i couldn’t decide between this song, if i had you, and fever. i ended up going with this one since we’ll hear it tomorrow, so there’s not really any point in posting it later. anyway, i have no personal interest in the song; i’m just thrilled that someone other than rachel, will, and finn is singing in tomorrow’s episode. kevin + amber = one of my favourite singing pairings. i love the gospel-y part at the end. amber’s voice is fierce.

this song is so beautiful. the melody is classic, and the lyrics are wonderful. i think this might be my favourite song off the fame monster. gaga needs to sing more ballads; people don’t realise that she’s actually a good singer under all the costumes and crazy antics.
4. people who always bum rides off of other people. (this isn’t directed towards @xtoefer, btw.) we’re juniors in college, guys. if you like going out to places, there is no excuse for not having your license. i’m sorry, but it just pisses me off when people don’t appreciate the people who give them rides. they have to pay for gas and haul you from place to place. fucking GIVE BACK, okay?
